The Incredible Hulk Trailer in March

Marvel's other summer release will see a trailer hit the web and cinema next month.

Marvel has been keeping what seems like a secret with The Incredible Hulk over the past few months. Other than two production stills released a few weeks ago there has been nothing to show for from the film. The movie comes out just over a month after Marvel's other summer title Iron Man yet hasn't been marketed anywhere close to the same level as that film. I don't think Marvel is trying to shove Hulk under the rug, they probably just want the spotlight on Iron Man for a great opening weekend.

Marvel should light a fire under this film as soon as they can and are making progress with the release of a trailer in March. WonderCon in San Francisco is next month and could be the perfect place to premiere the trailer. We'll see what happens.

Watch MediaZEALOT for feedback when the trailer is released in a few weeks. The Incredible Hulk hits cinemas on June 13th and stars Edward Norton, Tim Roth, and Liv Tyler.

Cheers.

This Week's Top DVD Releases

MediaZEALOT weighs in the top DVDs hitting shelves on February 19th.

It's a new age for DVD as a victor has finally been awarded in the high-definition format war. Blu-ray has emerged the winner and now is the time to buy. Read on for this week's top DVD picks.

Run, Lola, Run

Tom Tykwer's masterpiece is finally out in high-definition on Blu-ray disc and is a must own. The film's editing is great. The music is great. The concept is great. Franka Potente is great. Run, Lola, Run simply cannot be skipped on, especially in high-def. Pick this one up, you will not be disappointed.

Michael Clayton

I missed catching Michael Clayton during it's run in theatres last year but am insistent on picking it up today and will check it out. It looks extremely promising and I'm a big Tom Wilkinson fan (Eternal Sunshine, Batman Begins) so I probably won't be disappointed. With seven Oscar nominations including Best Director and Original Screenplay for Tony Gilroy this film is not to be missed.

American Gangster

Sir Ridley Scott has been a bit hit-and-miss with his last few films but American Gangster is a return to form. The film isn't near the quality of his classics but is still a great film. Denzel and Crowe give great performances and this film is not to be missed in high-def. However, I would resist buying the HD DVD due to the recent events. Pick up the regular DVD or wait until this crosses over to Blu-ray.

Today's Other Releases:

The Invasion - Directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel. Starring Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, and Veronica Cartwright.

Lust, Caution - Directed by Ang Lee. Starring Tang Wei and Tony Leung.

Margot at the Wedding - Directed by Noah Baumbach. Starring Nicole Kidman, Jack Black, and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Rendition - Directed by Gavin Hood. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Reese Witherspoon, and Meryl Streep.

That's all for this week. Check back next week for more DVD releases including 30 Days of Night and Beowulf.

Buy a DVD today? Post a comment and tell us what you picked up or what you are planning to buy.

Cheers.

Spawn #175 Review

Full of action and a powerful twist, Spawn 175 is a treat to read.

Spawn has been really hit and miss since artist Philip Tan left the book after issue 164 and ventured on to do Spawn: Godslayer. I really liked the Armageddon storyline that led up to Tan's departure and wasn't prepared for the book's drop in grade after he left. The last ten issues haven't been bad, they've just been easy to ignore. It's tough to settle for the current quality of the book when you've had a taste of how excellent Hine's writing can be when he's on his game.

Spawn 174 was a return to top form for David Hine and a fun read. Issue 175 continues that trend, concluding the two-part Gunslinger Spawn arc. The gun-toting western-themed Spawn is going on a rampage and plans on killing an entire town unless a fugitive can stop him. It's an exciting and action-packed issue that concludes with a great twist tying the arc back to present-day Spawn.

The art in this issue by Bing Cansino and Geirrod Van Dyke is amazing. The two showcase a very thick-brushed painted feel with amazing flow and detail not often found in your average comic. The action looks great and there is quite a bit of beautifully rendered gore and explosions. I'm a huge fan of comic artists who excel at the painted style and these two have done an excellent job over the past two issues.

The two-part Gunslinger Spawn arc proved to be a great stand-alone Spawn storyline. It was able to deal with issues in the Spawn Universe but didn't require its readers to have any knowledge of the current Spawn status quo. Hopefully this arc opened the door to some new Spawn readers and that the quality of this arc is carried on in Spawn 176 and forward.

One Sentence Review: Great issue and a fitting conclusion to an excellent arc.

Spawn #176
hits comic shops in March and will feature the return of regular Spawn artist Brian Haberlin.

Cheers.

The Twelve #2 Review

J. Michael Straczynski follows up the excellent first issue of his new series with another brilliant read.

J. Michael Straczynski's The Twelve is looking like it will turn out to be one of the best books to come out recently. I know it's a bit early, as only two out of 12 issues have hit stores, but it feels like it could go the distance and really make a name for itself.

The Twelve is about twelve Golden Age heroes who fought as a team during the Second World War only to be frozen in time and then awoken in the present day Marvel Universe. The heroes are given the task of settling in and returning to form as crime fighters but many are having a hard time getting over the past.

The second issue is more of what was found in the first but with more character work. Straczynski does an excellent job showing the humanity of these heroes and you really understand their confusion and pain as you read this issue. I found myself deeply feeling for these characters which is something a comic isn't often able to do, Straczynski does it with ease.

The art of Chris Weston is once again remarkable. Weston does an excellent job creating a retro feel to the comic without allowing the art to feel dated. His pencils are crisp and detailed and a thrill to take in. The art features everything great about the art in old comics but with a modern twist to set it apart. Kaare Andrews is also doing some great work with the cover of each issue.

It'll be interesting to see where this comic book goes. The story is still being established and we haven't yet seen clue of a major villain or plot device. The past two issues have been amazing reads and if Straczynski can keep it up for the next ten we'll be in for a real treat.

One Sentence Review: Spectacular follow up to an amazing first issue. This book can't be missed.

The third issue of The Twelve hits comic shops on March 5th.

Cheers.

Ryan Reynolds is Deadpool

The witty actor will dawn the black and red suit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Gavin Hood's X-Men Origins: Wolverine is going to be one crowded flick. According to AICN Ryan Reynolds will suit up as anti-hero Deadpool in Fox's 2009 blockbuster. If that wasn't enough, the film will also showcase Liev Schreiber's Sabertooth, obese villian The Blob, the red-headed Silver Fox, and mercenary William Stryker.

Ryan Reynolds (Smokin' Aces, Van Wilder) playing Deadpool is great news. He's quick-witted and has great delivery and has shown interest in playing the character over the past few years. He'll make a great Deadpool if the character is written close to the comic source material. Many people have been dying to see him dawn the character's red and black hood and I'm one of them. This is great news, hopefully it leads to a spin-off Deadpool flick.

The Blob, however, is an unusual choice for a villain in the film. The character is known for his puncture-proof skin and his obesity. He's a fatty, weighing in at roughly 1000 pounds, and will be played be a dude in a fat suit. I don't see the comic character working well on film. He'll most likely come off as immature and comedic and will have a hard time being taken seriously if it's just a dude dressed in fat-padding.

William Stryker, played by the great Brian Cox (Zodiac, Troy) in the previous X-Men films, will be played by actor Danny Huston (30 Days of Night, Children of Men) in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The character will be much younger than he was in the first two X-Men films but will play a key role in Wolverine's origin story. Lynn Collins (The Number 23, 13 Going on 30) will play Silver Fox, Wolverine's love-interest in the film.

I think that this film is taking the wrong path. The film should focus on Wolverine and his birth as a hero, not spread the spotlight around with five other characters dying for screen time. Brett Ratner's X-Men 3 didn't work because it introduced so many new characters but didn't allow the time to develop them. There's no need to introduce so many sideshow characters, save them for sequels or, in Deadpool's case, give them their own title films. I would have been content seeing Sabertooth as the film's only villain, there's no need for anyone else. As much as I can't wait to see Ryan Reynolds play Deadpool I think Marvel is going overboard with this film.

Where do you guys think this film is headed? Will it be a success or is it going down the toilet with all these casting decisions? Post a comment and voice your opinion.

Cheers.

Toy Fair 2008 Marvel Mighty Muggs Pics

Pictures of Hasbro's Marvel Legends Mighty Muggs Wave 2 vinyl figures have hit the net.

As many know, the American International Toy Fair is being held this weekend in New York. The convention showcases new toys and related products and is often where new figures, statues, and designs are unveiled. This year looks like it'll be no exception as I've stumbled across some pics of Hasbro's second wave of Marvel Legends Mighty Muggs.

MediaZEALOT ran an article on the Muggs a few days back (read it HERE) but I was unsure of which figures would be part of the second wave of Marvel figures. I had seen a picture of a The Thing Mighty Mugg and suspected it would inclued in the wave but had no idea who would fill in the other three spots. The pictures, released earlier today, show that Captain America, Dr. Doom, and Hulk will make up the rest of the list.

I think that The Thing figure is the best looking in this wave. Cap may have his shield, Doom his cape, and Hulk may just be a total bad-ass but none of the three hold a candle to Mr. Grimm. To tell the truth I'm a bit disappointed with the second wave. It's not that they aren't great figures, they are, it's just that the bar was set so high with the first wave. Regardless, they are still pretty neat.

I am unsure when the second wave of Marvel Legends Mighty Muggs hit shelves. If the release habits of the Star Wars Muggs are any indication the second wave will come out in April, a month after the first.

What do you guys think of these Muggs? Post a comment and share your opinion.

Cheers.
