Thomas Sangster Front-Runner in TinTin Casting

The 17-year old Brit is the top candidate for the leading role in the Spielberg and Jackson directed motion-capture trilogy.

It was around this time last year that Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson announced that they would team up to bring TinTin to the silver screen (read about it HERE). It's hard not to take notice when two great directors team up for a project and my interest spiked when I heard the two big names would both be involved. However, very little information on the film has surfaced since last March and my excitement has dwindled. That has all changed as The Daily Mail have revealed that actor Thomas Sangster is the front-runner for the lead role in the motion-capture animated trilogy.



Sangster has quite a few films under his belt, considering his young age of 17, including Love Actually, Nanny McPhee, and Tristan + Isolde. He's also done quite a bit of work for British television and made-for-TV movies.

I'm not sure what to make of this casting rumour. Sangster would definitely not be my first choice if I was in charge but it's hard to predict how he'll fare in motion-capture. Maybe they'll make him look a tad older or change some of his physical features ala Ray Winstone in Beowulf.

Monsters vs Aliens 3-D

Dreamworks have rallied up a hilarious cast for their "ultimate 3-D" B-movie.

Dreamworks has announced the cast for their upcoming 3-D B-movie spoof Monsters vs Aliens. Reese Witherspoon will play the animated film's lead role as a 49-foot woman who must fend off an alien invasion. Joining her in the fight is Hugh Laurie, Seth Rogan, Kiefer Sutherland, and Will Arnett. Rainn Wilson will lend his chords to the alien villain and Stephen Colbert will voice the President.



Monsters vs Aliens will also be the debut of what Dreamworks' animation chief Jeffrey Katzenberg is calling "ultimate 3-D". The animated film is the first to be shot in natural 3-D and will be digitally projected in theatres across North America come 2009. Dreamworks has also announced that, moving forward, all of their CG-animated movies will be shot in natural 3-D.

While I'm not normally a fan of computer-animation I am slightly interested in this project. I'm a sucker for 3-D on the big screen and Monsters vs Aliens looks like it could be a fun experience.

Monsters vs Aliens doesn't come out until March 27th, 2009. MediaZEALOT will have more information on the film leading up until its release.

FILM: Tintin Movie in the Works?

Steven Spielberg has reportedly acquired the rights to the popular French comic series Tintin.

On Friday Steven Spielberg and his company Dreamworks acquired the rights to the French action-hero Tintin. Spielberg, who had been trying to buy the rights to the character for over two decades, hopes to produce a Tintin film in the near future.



I don't really know what to think of this. I think that Tintin could be a great adventure film and if Spielberg is passionate about the character then it should turn out great. One thing that I question though is Tintin's popularity in the United States. Does he have the star power to be a box-office success? He does in Europe but he's not as well-known over here in North America.

What do you people think of this? Can Spielberg and Dreamworks do justice to the famous French adventurer?

As of now no details have been announced for Tintin. Check back here for updates as the film starts gaining steam.
